    Financial Assistance

    International Excellence Rate: Undergraduate Students with an incoming GPA of 3.5 - 4.0 automatically receive a special scholarship rate. The rate is locked in for four years. Students do not need to maintain 3.5 or higher GPA to retain special rate. No scholarship application is needed. The current scholarship amount is $1700 per year (Guaranteed for 4 years)


    International Student Scholarship: Undergraduate students with a GPA of 2.75 or higher and graduate students with a GPA of 3.0 are higher are eligible to apply. The scholarship is based on GPA and financial need statement. The current approximate schoarship amount is $3000 per year for undergraduate students and $8000 per year for graduate students. Undergraduate students may recieve both the Undergraduate Excellence Award and International Student Scholarship if qualified and selected.


    3. Graduate Assistantship: Tuition plus stipend in exchange for teaching or research assistance within a graduate department.

    EIU is within three hours from Chicago, St. Louis, and Indianapolis, and within easy driving distance of Champaign-Urbana. Rail service is available through the Amtrak train station in nearby Mattoon.

    Graduate: 550 PBT, 213 CBT, 79 IBT, 5.0 ITEP (Academic Plus) 





    ESL is offered on campus through The Language Company (http://www.thelanguagecompany.com/). Conditional admission through The Language Company (TLC) is available for all undergraduate programs and some graduate programs. Students who successfully complete level 9 at TLC meet the EIU admission requirement for undergraduate programs. Students who successfully complete the advanced placement level at TLC meet the EIU admission requirement for graduate programs. 



    Application Deadline:
    Fall Semester: May 15 to apply for admission; May 30 to complete the file
    Spring Semester: October 15 to apply for admission; October 30 to complete the file
    *Scholarship deadlines require a completed file by March 1 (Fall) and October 1 (Spring).
           Fall Semester: from mid-August to mid-December
           Spring Semester: from early January to early May
    An orientation for international students will take place one week before the course starts.
